Go.....Thunderbirds!

Air Shows Are Awesome!

This past weekend the Thunderbirds (the USAF Air Demonstration Squadron) came to Scott AFB. I am an "Air Force Brat" (in the civilian world this translates to someone who grew up in an Air Force family!) and have LOVED going to Air Shows for as long as I can remember. There is something about it. It really gets your blood pumping and makes you so proud of our military...all branches! This year the lead Thunderbird solo is Maj Samantha Weeks. She is only 32 and I am in awe of what she does. Girl power, right?!?

One heading up ... The noise is deafening but at the same time amazing!

Caroline loves, loves, loves airplanes! We live close to the base and we see many of them pass over our neighborhood daily. She always stops and points to the sky or to the ceiling if we're inside when she hears one. She is already a good little 'Air Force Brat' and has a love for it, just like her big brother!!! ;)

Wow, wow, wow! If you EVER get the chance to see this elite team of the 'best of the best' AF fighter pilots you have to go!

Caroline just kept saying 'Whoa' with every pass by. There are no better words to describe what these pilots can do!

After watching the show we took the kids in a C-17 Globemaster. The load master (someone in Jason's career field) let Miss Priss sit on a crew bunk. Messy, messy. Someone didn't make their bed that day!

Maybe we don't have the next Thunderbird female pilot on our hands. She did NOT like this one bit!
Bryce however, was intrigued!

He especially thought it was neat to get to see the type of plane his Daddy has flown in those very same seats in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq each time he's been. He did not realize just how not comfy those seats were and how BIG the planes are inside! As I watched my kids~ so innocent and young, sitting in those seats, I couldn't help but think of all the men and women who are in each branch of the service and do take these flights in and out of harms way for our continued freedom. What a humbling experience that never, never gets old. XO

Hey Leslie,

It was good seeing you guys this morning eventhough we could not stay long becasue me and Eddie did not want to contaminate you and Miss Priss with our runny noses!! the air show looked like fun We will probably go next year when Elise is not so scared of loud noises! your babies are too cute!!

I would love to go to an air show! I bet it was so neat to see in person with all the noise and energy. Your poor little girl was definitely not a fan though, huh? That's about how mine looked last Christmas when we tried to put her on Santa's lap: get me out of here!

P.S. I just read your post on your hubby flying through Denver. I will wave at him when I see a plane overhead! Too bad you aren't flying through with a nice long layover! :)

I love going to Air Shows too. I remember how good that one there is at Scott, AFB. I also remember when those Thunderbirds were practicing before the air show right over our base house there! Scared me to death at first.

What a wonderful time this must have been! While my father was in the Navy we went to many of these show and I was always in awe of all the pilots could do!

That is so cool that you get to watch the planes and even go inside! It sounds like you all had a great time! :) And you never know, your little girl could change her mind about the whole pilot thing! :)

Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for another encouraging comment on the whole house thing! :)

Hi Les,

Looks like a great time at the air show....I love the pics of the kids in the plane.....Bryce does look like he might be the next pilot in the family!

I guess I didn't realize your husband was a pilot..Words cannot describe the respect that I have for what he does for this country...I agree, that standing in that plane had to be a humbling experience!

I hope that you all enjoy your weekend!

Hugs,

Lisa

Lisa~ Hi there! Nope, Jas isn't a pilot~ he's in the transportation field in the Air Force. He's been deployed downrange and has also taken a few month long trips time and again to go downrange, plus some conferences he's been to there (and humanitarian and other missions in other times he's been involved in) so he's seen the inside of one of these planes many, many times! I have family that were/are pilots though...so maybe B will follow in those footsteps? He says he wants to join the AF so we shall see! I hope you enjoy your weekend, too! Any big plans? We've got 2 soccer games. How about Nick??? xo Hugs, Les
